Here is my version of Dead Or Alive’s You Spin Me Round (like a record). It’s being released as part of this years Record Store Gay compilation. A limited run of CDs will be for sale in record shops in Dublin on Record Store Day (April 20th), and at the Record Store Gay event in Outhouse.

Each song on the compilation is also being released as a limited edition melody pop single, just like last year. The melody pops will contain download codes for each acts chosen cover, and a bonus song. My bonus song is Chipped Teeth.

Last years Record Store Gay was great, and this year is shaping up to be even bigger and better. Well done to Andy from  I ♡ The Monster Hero for organising it all!

Here’s the full compilation. Lots of great covers on it, I’m particularly enjoying Jolene by The Holy Sparks!!!

Record Store Gay is happening again this year, and I’m delighted to be involved. I recorded a version of Dead Or Alive’s “You Spin Me Round (Like a Record)”, and I had a fine time doing it. I’ll post it when it’s back from getting mastered and when the RSG team give me the green light to do so! In the meantime, here are some photos from recording and mixing that particular song. I’m quite fond of taking photos of instruments and recording gear. Yes, I’m a nerd.

My assistant.

So 2012 is almost over, a quiet year on the SIC front, but a good one all the same. Well as good a year as can be expected when you live in a country where the politicians pay themselves and their corporate gambler buddies extra, at the expense of the disabled and less well off. But they’ll get their just desserts sooner or later. Maybe even on December 21st…

The only new thing i released this year was the song Blackest Mirror, part of my contribution to Record Store Gay. Here it is, and since it’s Christmas it’s free to download now too.

The other part of my contribution to that was my cover of Bananarama’s Robert De Niro’s Waiting. I like to think I didn’t completely murder it, though you might feel differently. Anyway, here it is, and it’s free now too so grab it if you want it.

Here’s something from forever ago, as Bon Iver might put it. That’d be 2001 or thereabouts. I happened upon it recently, it was recorded on my trusty old Boss BR8, a fine music recording machine if a little bit limited by todays standards.

Note the fuzz bass and distorted drum machine. I was all about the rawck back then. Good old F.R.O.T.N.Y.

Anyway, that’s enough of the old stuff. Here’s something new from a little side project of instrumentals I’ve been working on. It’s got the rather unseasonable title of On The Prowl, but don’t let that put you off.

Here’s another one.

I have a bunch of new SIC stuff in the works, so that means there’ll be a new LP sometime in 2013. More info on that in the new year!

I’ve also been playing bass with the band You Kiss By The Book over the last while. Last gig of the year with those guys is on December  23rd in the Grand Social here in Dublin. There’ll be tons of Christmas cheer and bass player impersonations galore from your’s truly, so it should be a fun night.

That’s all from me then, if you’ve made it to the end of this post thanks for reading. And of course for listening. And if the world doesn’t end on the 21st, have a great Christmas!

Spotify.

Spotify is now available in Ireland. It took a while to get here!

Way back in a previous post you might remember me mentioning my plans to make another video. Well that didn’t work out as planned; I did try to come up with something but let’s just say that video making isn’t my forte. The song I had ben planing on doing a video for was Red Words, Full Of Promises.

However, I didn’t flake out completely! I decided to make a video of a live version of the song and I mic’ed it up all proper for your listening pleasure. It was shot on a sunny evening in my living room by the ever helpful and patient Rita.

I have no plans for anymore gigs this year, I have started work on a new collection of songs though, so when I do play live again it will be with new stuff.

100,000 Times, my debut album, was released a year ago today! As a celebration of sorts, I’ve reduced the price on Bandcamp – only €2 for the download, or €5 for the CD. I’ll keep the prices that way for the next week or so, as I prefer birth-weeks to birthdays. Why have one day of fun when you can have seven?

I’ll be playing on June 29th in the upstairs part of Whelans on Wexford St, Dublin town. The occasion is Twin Terrace‘s album launch, and I’ve coerced a couple of buddies to join me, so we’ll be playing as a three piece on the night; guitar/vocals, drums and keys. That’s a lineup we’ve never tried out live before, so expect a slightly different take on things!
